Being Cleopatra: Tallulah Bankhead

Tallulah Bankhead being Cleopatra in the Broadway production of William Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra on November 10, 1937, however, not to rave reviews.

John Mason Brown of the New York Post wrote, "Tallulah Bankhead barged down the Nile last night as Cleopatra - and sank."

Another New York critique said, "A serpent of the Suwanee, the Queen of the Nile, not more dangerous than a garter snake!"

Tallulah replied "As far as I'm concerned Shakespeare should have left Anthony and Cleopatra in Plutrach, where he found them
