Cleopatra's Needle
All three obelisks were constructed in ancient Egypt and later re-erected in other locations in the 19th century. The nickname these monuments acquired are actually not very accurate since they were erected over a thousand years before Cleopatra's lifetime.

How did the Ancient Egyptians Celebrate December 25?
Statue of Isis Suckling Horus, Bronze (664-332 BC)
The virgin mother Isis and her son Horus (20 BC)
In the ancient Egyptian traditions it was customary to celebrate the birth of Horus who was born on the equivalent to our 25th of December in around 3000 BC.
Let me set up the story: Set, Nephtys, Osiris and Isis were the four children born from the Sky Goddess, Nut, and fathered by the Sun God, Ra. Osiris was not only a god, but he also became the first king of Egypt and married his sister Isis who gave birth to Horus. However, Isis was still said to be a virgin mother. Legend has it that Osiris was killed by his brother, Set, and his body was cut into 14 pieces which were dispersed through Egypt. Isis retrieved the remains of her husband and was able to conceive Horus.
She went into hiding in the marshes of the Nile Delta, and gave birth to Horus, the Son of God, under Sirus, the brightest star in the sky located in the eastern sky.
Very interesting!!

"This striking portrayal of Barbie doll as Cleopatra captures the nobility of a divine queen. She wears a dazzling cape and skirt with exotic green and black design, featuring a golden rope embellishment. Her extravagant headdress lends a regal air with its ornate design with scarab and cobra details. The faux jewel and golden earrings, dagger, and scepter reveal the Pharaoh's exotic origin. History and striking elegance meet to create an extraordinary doll."

Take an innovative look at some of the world s most fascinating, iconic, and ruthless leaders as HISTORYTM cuts through the folklore to present precise portraits of characters from Alexander the Great to Genghis Khan and Caligula to Cleopatra. Using the latest historical discoveries, forensic science tests, archaeological finds, analysis of torture instruments, and battlefield dynamics, ANCIENTS BEHAVING BADLY sheds light on these leaders and how they really came to power (most killed off family members); treated their subjects, friends, and family; were so successful in keeping their power; demonstrated battlefield leadership; and achieved such spectacular transformations at home. Expert interviews, on-location shots, and CGI help to re-create their environments and provide stunning reenactments.

Cleopatra in the News: Are Angelina Jolie & James Cameron Making a Film on Cleopatra?
There has been much talk about the dream team, Angelina Jolie and James Cameron, making a 3D film about Cleopatra. Producer Scott Rudin has bought the rights to Stacy Schiff‘s book Cleopatra: A Life, and wants Jolie to star as the sexy heroine. Rudin says the film is “being developed for and with Jolie.” Schiff, the author of the biography, has already given her blessing saying, “physically, she’s the perfect look.”
On December 7, 2010 when MTV asked Jolie if she will be playing Cleopatra she replied, "I hope to one day."
However, on December 14, 2010 at the California Hall of Fame, Cameron said that he has decided not to pursue making Cleopatra, but instead to focus on his upcoming project, Avatar 2.
While Cameron may be out, rumor now has it that real-life lover to Jolie, Brad Pitt, may be in!
We'll see what happens...
