Eric Roth close to becoming writer for the 3D Cleopatra film

Eric Roth close to becoming writer on Fincher’s 3D CLEOPATRA pic
By Bill Melidoneas

"According to Variety, Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth (FORREST GUMP, MUNICH, and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON) looking reunite with David Fincher on his 3D CLEOPATRA epic. Oscar winning scribe Brian Helgeland (L.A CONFIDENTIAL) adapted the novel CLEOPATRA: A LIFE but it seems Fincher is bringing on his own writer to tailor the script to his cinematic style having worked with Roth on their Oscar-nominated efforts in THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.

CLEOPATRA will take a closer, more intimate perspective from the Egyptian ruler showing her as a master strategist in war and politics. The film is slated to star Angelina Jolie, the only actress Hollywood believes is bankable in a big epic-type film such as this or for any big budget female starring vehicle.

This is going to be one of the most interesting and ambitious films Hollywood has put out in a very long time: a 3D historical epic taking on a new approach of a legendary character directed by one of Hollywood’s great contemporary filmmakers."

Cleopatra Through the Artist's Eye: Fernand Paillet

Mrs. Arthur Henry Paget
(Mary Fiske Stevens, 1853-1919)
Watercolor on ivory
Fernand Paillet (1850-1918)
1891

"Posed against a background of palm trees, the Nile River, and distant pyramids, Mrs. Paget is depicted in a stunning masquerade ball costume, dressed as Cleopatra. Mrs. Paget evidently liked dressing as the Egyptian queen, as she donned a similar costume for the famous Devonshire House Ball held in London in 1897. Her gown, supplied by Worth of Paris, glittered with gold and diamonds, and her headdress of rubies and emeralds was surmounted by a jeweled crown. Paillet painted the miniature after this studio photograph."

The Krewe of Cleopatra in Gretna, LA

Taking place in Gretna, LA, the Krewe of Cleopatra has just selected its queen for the 2012 Mardi Gras season. She is Belle Chasse resident Kimberly Buck.

It was 39 years ago that two sisters saw in their dreams a vision of Mardi Gras, with the beauty andgrace that could only be captured in an all women's carnival organization. Thus, was this krewe born.

A symbol was chosen for the power, dignity and beauty of a women's krewe...The ageless splendor of Egypt's mighty ruler...Cleopatra!

Our motto: Her beauty is timeless, her age is now… forever!

Cleopatra's Sister, written and directed by Trevor Schmidt, is being performed at Northern Light Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

“Why would I clear a path to the throne only to let you be the woman to walk it?”

In a final and dramatic meeting between Cleopatra and her sister (and rival) Arsinoe, only one woman can emerge victorious. Cleopatra's Wedge

Cleopatra’s Wedge centers Burns Commons, where Prospect Avenue meets Ogden in Milwaukee, WI

"Cleopatra's Wedge is an 18-foot-tall (5.5 m) carbon steel sculpture currently on display at the Burns Commons in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is part of a growing roster of public art found within the city.

Created in 1991 by Brooklyn born artist Beverly Pepper and carved from an abandoned freeway corridor, the piece has been described by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as "slicing into the sky like a tool left behind by Paul Bunyan." It is made from Cor-ten, a favorite among outdoor artists, which naturally oxidizes while maintaining a deep rustlike appearance.

Cleopatra's Wedge came to Milwaukee by way of Chicago's Navy Pier. Before that it was exhibited in New York's Battery Park, Florence, Paris, and other places around the world.

Barry Mandel, a developer who created the surrounding apartment buildings, has an option to purchase the piece for $225,000. He hopes it will become the centerpiece of a new sculpture garden at the Burns Commons that would include a number of smaller works from recognized artists.

The park itself was part of a land swap with the City of Milwaukee to expand available green space. It was dedicated to poet Robert Burns in 1909 by Mayor David Rose, and has been called the First Ward Triangle, Franklin Square, and Baby's Park. During the 1900s, nannies for many of the wealthy Terrace Avenue families would sit with their newborn charges at the triangle."
